Killed By A Mule’s Kick

Matthew J. Poole Killed While Going to Visit His Sick Mother

Matthew J. Poole of the Phalanx was kicked in the head by a mule last night, from the effects of which he died about half an hour later. Mr. Poole is employed by Charles Oliver. About half-past seven o’clock Mr. Poole and a friend whose first name was Ernest started for Vanderburg to visit Mr. Poole’s mother, Mrs. Mary Poole, who is very sick. They had gone only a short distance when Mr. Poole, who was driving leaned over the dash board and struck the mule with the whip. The mule kicked and hit Mr. Poole on the head.

Mr. Poole was rendered unconscious by the kick, and he was immediately taken home by his companion. He died a short time after reaching his home. Dr. J. C. Rush of Red Bank was sent for but Mr. Poole was dead before he arrived.

Mr. Poole was married and a widow and two small children survive him. The funeral will be held on Friday morning at St. James’s church at Red Bank and the body will be buried in Mr. Olivet cemetery at Headden’s Corner.
