A Keyporter Drowned
Melton E. Howard of Keyport was drowned in the bay off Cliffwood during the storm last Thursday afternoon while working on the sloop Aggie with
Capt. Cornelius Britton. When the storm came up Howard went out on a foot rope to tie down the sloop's jib. The foot rope broke and he fell
into the water. Being unable to swim he drowned before Captain Britton could reach him. The body was found Friday morning near the spot where
the accident occurred. Howard was 38 years old and unmarried.
