New Jersey Obituaries - 1900 - Mrs. Eleanor (Polhemus) Vanderveer

Mrs. Eleanor (Polhemus) Vanderveer, the oldest resident of Long Branch, died of Bright’s disease last Thursday, aged 91 years. The day of her death was the anniversary of her birth. Mrs. Vanderveer had been sick some time. She was the daughter of Sarah VanDyke and Daniel P. Polhemus and was born on the Polhemus place near Lincroft. When quite young she married Garrett D. Vanderveer. He died in 1886, and since then Mrs. Vanderveer had made her home with Mrs. Sarah A. Morford of Long Branch. She leaves no children.

Mrs. Vanderveer was the last member of her family. She was an aunt by marriage of the late Vice President Garrett A. Hobart. Mr. Hobart was named by Mrs. Vanderveer after her husband. Mrs. Vanderveer was a life-long member of the Long Branch Reformed church and was very active in church work.
