Obits - NJ - 1900 - William H. H. Carter

William H. H. Carter, son of John E. Carter, who lives near Keyport, died at St. Vincent's hospital at New York, on Sunday, September 16th, aged
33 years. Mr. Carter was employed as fireman and oiler on the Port Monmouth steamboat, William V. Wilson. His death resulted from injuries
received while at work on the boat on Friday, August 24th. He was oiling the main shaft of the steamboat while she lay at her pier in New York.
The shaft gave a turn and caught Carter breaking his left leg in two places and injuring him internally. Carter was taken to St. Vincent's hospital
where his leg was amputated at the knee. Last week another operation was performed but Carter could not survive the latter operation. He leaves a
widow and an infant child.
