|
James Murphy, who lived near Port Monmouth, died last Wednesday a week ago at the age of 73. He was stricken with paralysis seven months ago and he had been gradually failing since that time. He was a native of Ireland. He came to this country about fifty years ago and settled in Middletown township, where he had since engaged in farming. He was a man of integrity and was well liked by his neighbors.
Mr. Murphy's wife died about eight years ago, but five children survive him. They are Mrs. Patrick Kenney and Martin Murphy of Port Monmouth, Mrs. William Corcoran of Chapel Hill, John Murphy of Harmony and Michael Murphy of New York. The funeral was held on Saturday at St. Mary's church at New Monmouth and was largely attended. A solemn requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. J. R. O'Connor, assisted by two visiting priests. The bearers were Michael Dowd, James Dugan, Michael McLaughlin, Edward Ryan, Timothy Reddington and James McMahon. The body was buried at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
