Obituaries - NJ - 1901 - Mrs. Kate (Videtto) Smith
|
Mrs. Kate Smith of East Front street died very suddenly of apoplexy last Thursday, aged 59 years. Mrs. Smith made her home with her
daughters, Louise, wife of Fred Gill, and Lizzie, wife of Andrew R. Coleman. Mrs. Gill is a member of the Red Bank auxiliary of the
Long Branch hospital and she was attending a meeting of the auxiliary when her mother was stricken. She was sent for but her
mother was dead before she reached home. Mrs. Coleman was up stairs when her mother was stricken. When she came downstairs she
found her mother in an unconscious condition on the floor. Mrs. Smith had been sitting at the table eating a piece of cake. The
cake had fallen from her hand and the chair on which she had been sitting was lying on her. She died soon afterward.
Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Eliza and the late Jacob Videtto of Fair Haven. She had made her home with her daughters since their
marriage. A brother and a sister survive Mrs. Smith. They are Miss Martha Videtto of New York and George Videtto of Brooklyn. The
funeral was held at the house at half past two o'clock on Sunday afternoon. Rev. Robert MacKellar conducted the service. The body was
buried in Fair View cemetery.
