Obituaries - NJ - 1901 - Mrs. Nancy E. Bigham

Mrs. Nancy E. Bigham died on Tuesday of last week at the home of her son-in-law, James Stokes of Freehold. She was 65 years old and death was caused by
pneumonia. She was born near Louisville, Georgia, and was left an orphan in infancy. She was adopted into the family of her uncle, Shadrach Allen.
In 1852 she married James A. Bigham and they lived on a large plantation in the south until the outbreak of the civil war, when Mr. Bigham went to the
front. After the war the family moved to Atlanta. In 1886, a daughter, Leonara, married James Stokes and upon Mr. and Mrs. Stokes' removal to Freehold
in 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Bigham moved there with them. Mr. Bigham died eight years ago. One son, Fernandez, was a commercial traveler. He went on a t
rip to Dallas, Texas, in 1894, and was never heard from afterward. Mrs. Bigham had been a life-long member of the Methodist church.
