Hugh Hearld of Holmdel died on Saturday morning of consumption. He was 72 years old. For the past twelve years Mr. Hearld had not been able to do any severe work but he was able to be out and around the place up to a couple of days before his death. The funeral was held on Monday morning at the Catholic church at Morrisville. Rev. William P. Tracey of Bradevelt had charge of the service. The body was buried at Mount Olivet cemetery at Headden's Corner.

Mr. Hearld was born in Ireland and came to this country about fifty years ago. He first came to Red Bank and took up the occupation of gardener. He married, but his wife died about 35 years ago. He moved to Holmdel permanently about six years ago. He leaves one daughter, Rosie, whose whereabouts are unknown. One sister, Mrs. Margaret Melee of Holmdel, also survives him.
