A Sudden Death

Dr. James H. Slocum Dies Suddenly of Heart Disease

Dr. James H. Slocum, a dentist of Long Branch City, died suddenly of heart disease on Monday night. He was around as usual on Monday. At the supper table at night he complained of not feeling well and he went to bed. About half-past eleven o'clock he was taken with a sinking spell and he died in a few minutes.

Dr. Slocum was the son of George Slocum and was born at Long Branch. He graduated from a Philadelphia dental school and opened an office at Long Branch. A little over ten years ago his son, Dr. Edward H. Slocum joined him in the business. Dr. Slocum belonged to the Royal Arcanum lodge and the Loyal benefit association of Long Branch, and to the Knights of Pythias lodge of Oceanport. He married Miss Hartsanna Price of Oceanport about 36 years ago. She and the one son survive him.

(Per death notice Dr. Slocum was aged 58 years)
