Obituaries - NJ - 1901 - Mrs. Sarah A. Phillips

Mrs. Sarah A. Phillips died on Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William H. Davis of Pearl street. She was 72 years old. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the house. Rev. William B. Matteson of the Baptist church had charge of the service and the body was buried in Fair View cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips was born at South Amboy. When she was about nineteen years old she married Ivins D. Phillips of Toms River. They lived in South Amboy for ten years after their marriage and then moved to New York, where they lived four years. Mr. Phillips was a wharf builder and his business took him to Philadelphia. He died in Philadelphia 24 years ago. Mrs. Phillips spent the next two years visiting around among her children. Then she had a stroke of paralysis and had since lived with her daughter at Red Bank. She had been unable to use her left side for 21 years. Besides her daughter at Red Bank she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Mary Norcross of Lakewood and a son, West Phillips of Philadelphia. Twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive her.
