Mrs. Hannah Virginia Applegate, wife of Maxcy Applegate, editor of the Freehold Inquirer, died on Sunday, March 17th of paralysis of the throat. She contracted a heavy cold while attending a meeting of the Daughters of Liberty lodge at Jersey City a week previous and the severe coughing that accompanied the cold caused a paralysis of the throat. She was 36 years old.

Mrs. Applegate was the daughter of Elizabeth and the late Charles H. Clayton, and was born at Clarksburg. She married Maxcy Applegate in1884. Besides her husband she leaves three children, Jennie, Trillie and Maxcy. She joined the Methodist church when a girl but since her removal to Freehold she had been a member of the Episcopal church. She was active in the Daughters of Liberty lodge and for the past three years had been supreme representative of the order. She had a sunny disposition that made her very popular with all who knew her.
