Charles Hill Bergen, son of Amanda and John B. Bergen, died last Friday at the home of his parents on Broad street, aged 31 years. About two months ago he was attacked with the grip. He recovered sufficiently to be about and he went to Porto(sic) Rico with Mr. and Mrs. George Hance Patterson in the hope that the change would benefit his health. He returned from the trip in a weaker condition than he was when he went, and he died a few days after his return home. Previous to being taken sick with the grip he was of robust appearance and enjoyed excellent health. He was a civil engineer by profession, having graduated from Columbia college. He married Henrietta M. F. French, daughter of Charles G. French of Red Bank. She died last January. A daughter, Portia, aged three years, survives Mr. Bergen. The funeral was held on Monday at the house and the body was buried at Fair View cemetery.
