Obituaries - NJ - 1901 - Mrs. Mariah (Ackerson) Huff

Mrs. Mariah Hoff, widow of Captain Joseph D. Hoff of Keyport, died of Bright's disease last Thursday, aged 83 years. She had been sick about two months. She was the daughter of Sarah and Cornelius Ackerson and was born at New York. When she was fourteen years old the family moved to Keyport. In 1837 she married Captain Joseph D. Hoff, who died a few years ago. Captain Hoff was United States consul to Mexico under Presidents Cleveland and Harrison. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hoff, only two of whom are living. Mrs. Samuel G. Fairchild of Keyport and Walter T. Hoff of Hazlet. Mrs. Hoff also leaves a brother, Henry E. Ackerson of Holmdel, who is 81 years old. Mrs. Hoff united with Keyport Baptist church when Rev. William V. Wilson was pastor and was the first person to be baptized by Mr. Wilson after his settlement at Keyport. Mr. Wilson, who is now over ninety years old, assisted in the funeral service on Monday.
