An Afflicted Family
Elwood Snyder, Jr.’s Wife Very Sick and His Infant Son Dead
Elwood Snyder, jr., proprietor of the Metropolitan hotel at Eatontown, has more trouble at
present than the average man. His wife is dangerously sick at the Long Branch hospital with
appendicitis. His infant son, Lewis Drummond Snyder, died on Monday of pneumonia. His five-year-old
daughter, Frances Sybilla, is sick with measles but is improving. A nurse who was caring for the children
was taken sick and had to return home, and a waitress at the hotel is sick also.
Mrs. Snyder was taken sick last November with appendicitis and she underwent an operation at that time.
Last Friday she was again stricken with the disease and she has since been operated on again. Her condition
is critical.
About a week ago Mrs. Snyder’s son Lewis Drummond, was taken sick with measles. The disease developed into
pneumonia and the child died on Monday night. It was eleven months old. The funeral will be held at the
house at two o’clock to-morrow. Mrs. Snyder has not been told of the child’s death, as her condition is
such that it is feared she could not stand the shock. The baby’s body will be placed in a vault until
the mother recovers.
