Obituaries - NJ - 1904 - Mrs. Delia DeWitt (Delia Rattican Divitz)
|
Mrs. Delia DeWitt
Mrs. Delia DeWitt, wife of Mr. William DeWitt, was called to her
heavenly rest Saturday night, August 27th, 1904, at her home in Brevent
Park. She had been a patient sufferer from stomach trouble for a long
period and bore up under her affliction with Christian fortitude, the
disease finally causing her death. She was in her forty second year.
Mrs. DeWitt was born in Ireland. Her husband and four children survive
her: Charles, aged 19; Helena 17, Delia 15, and Harry 9. She also leaves
four sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Allstrom of Atlantic Highlands, Mrs. Kate
Thompson of Red Bank, Mrs. Celia Staff of Matawan, and Mrs. Sarah Ash of New
Monmouth. Her father and brother survive her.
The funeral services were held the following Tuesday in St. Agnes¹
church of which she was a devout member, Rev. Father O¹Farrell officiating.
The remains were interred in Mt. Olivet cemetary. The floral tributes
showed the respect in which the deceased was held. They were many and
beautiful.
The pallbearers were Thomas Dowd, James Martin, Thomas Jennings, Edward
Oakes.
