Obits - NJ - 1907 - Thomas Johnson
|
One of the oldest and highly respected residents of Allentown died in
the house of his son, John C. Johnson, Sunday, December 1st, at 4 PM, after
an illness of about 7 weeks. He had been in poor health all the past summer
but was not confined to the house. Old age and softening of the brain were
the cause of death.
The deceased was born in Toms River, December 19, 1823. He spent about
54 years of his life at Toms River, after which he went to the vicinity of
Allentown, and has lived there about 30 years.
He married Miss Sarah J. Conk of Toms River in 1855. The following
children survive them: E. B. Johnson of Davis, Thomas Johnson Jr. of
Hornerstown, J. Frank Johnson of New Egypt, J.C. Johnson and Albert Johnson
of near Allentown.
The deceased was one of ten children, the following of whom survive:
Michael Johnson of Ohio, Edward Johnson of Covington, Kentucky, and Mrs.
Eliza Cunningham of Orange.
He was a farmer of Occupation. The funeral services were held from the
home of his son, John C. Johnson, Wednesday, December 4 at 11 AM and were
conducted by Rev. B. F. Bryan of the Allentown Baptist Church. Internment
was made in the Allentown Presbyterian Cemetery.
