New York Obituaries - 1899 - Rev. Eugene Pesnelle |
Rev. Eugene Pesnelle
Superior General of the Fathers of Mercy Passed Away in Paris
The Fathers of Mercy, in charge of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Broadway and Aberdeen Street,
Brooklyn, have received a cablegram announcing the death in Paris of the Very Rev. Eugene Pesnelle,
the Superior General of the order. It is expected that several of the priests of the
order in this country will be called abroad to take part in the council at which a successor
to the Superior will be chosen.
Father Pesnelle died at the head house of the Fathers of Mercy in Paris. He was seventy-five
years old, and had been ill for several years. He was elected Superior of the order
six years ago. He was a native of Bordeaux, France, and was for several years
a Professor of Law and Theology at the seminary in that city. He visited this country
about two years ago, and was present at the lating of the cornerstone of the new
Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, in Brooklyn.
