Obituaries - NY - 1901 - Mrs. Anna A. Merserean Steers
|
Mrs. Anna A. Merserean Steers, widow of Edward Panlet Steers, died in Garden City, L. I. on Monday last.
The funeral took place at her residence, in Garden City yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mrs. Steers
was president of the Dames of the Revolution continuously from the date of its incorporation to her
death. She was greatly beloved by the members, who would never even consider a change in the Presidency.
She was the first President General of the Daughters of the Revolution, and that society owes its growth and
standing largely to her generosity, executive ability, and untiring labor during the first four years
of its existence.
She was a descendant of Gov. Bradford, a life member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member
of the Mayflower Society, and the Colonial Governors. She was one of the organizers of the Women's
Auxilliary of the Harlem Dispensary, and one of its Vice Presidents, and at one time one of the Directors
of the J. Hood Wright Hospital. She was a member of the Sorosis and the New York Genealogical Society.
She was a woman of broad sympathies, very charitable, and leaves a wide circle of friends.
