Obituaries - NY - 1920 - John Hancock Swartz

John Hancock Swartz, a widely known inventor and a veteran of the civil war, died on Tuesday at his home, 229 Bergen Street, Brooklyn, in his eighty-fifth year. Mr. Swartz enlisted in the 47th Regiment, New York Volunteers, in the civil war and was later a Captain in the Hawkins Zouaves. He was a member of Perfect Ashlar Lodge, 604, F. and A. M., and one of the oldest members of the First Assembly District Republican Club.
