William H. Nelson, an assistant executive secretary of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, died Tuesday in Long Island Jewish Hospital, New Hyde Park. he was 49 years old and had been ill for three and a half years with leukemia.

Mr. Nelson had also been active in labor organization work with longshoreman.

Survivors include his widow, Charlotte; a son, William, jr.; two daughters, Janet and Karen, and a brother, Robert F. Nelson.
