Pioneer Gone, Joseph Frederick Weimer Died Tuesday Afternoon - Was Highly Regarded
Joseph Frederick Weimer, one of the pioneer residents of Brier Hill, died at
his home, 54 Hamburg Street, at 6:40 pm Tuesday, from heart failure and
infirmities of old age. Mr. Weimer was born June 14, 1839, at Bondorf,
Oberamt, Harrenberg, Kingdom of Wurtemberg. In 1853 he came to America and
had lived in Brier Hill ever since. For several years he drove canal boats
from Youngstown to Cleveland along the old canal. From 1864 for twenty years
he was employed at the Kleine coal bank. He also worked at the Brier Hill
Iron & Coal Company and last at the Carnegie Mills. He retired in 1911. He
was for many years a member of Martin Luther Church but since April 1883, he
belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran church. His wife, who was formerly Katherine
Herringer, died December 24, 1913. Surviving are six children, John, Mrs.
Myle Lodwick, David, George, Mrs. William Bader, all of Youngstown and Mrs.
Jacob Strehle of Warren. There are also ten grandchildren, besides a large
number of friends by whom he was highly
respected. The funeral will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the residence and
at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran church. Interment will be made in Belmont
Park Cemetery.
