WILLIAM ARNTZ, 102, LIFE SPANNED 16 PRESIDENCIES
The funeral for William P. "Pete" Arntz, 102, 358 Kenilworth Ave SE, who died Thursday,
will be
Saturday at 10:30 am in St Mary Church. Burial will be in St Mary Cemetery.
There are no calling hours. Material tributes may be made to American Heart
Association. Mr Arntz was born Oct 18, 1883, in a log cabin in Canton, the
son of Joseph and Susan Arntz. His lifetime spanned 16 presidents. He was
at Meyers Lake, near Canton when William McKinley and his wife visited there.
That day, he saw Leon Csolgosz, who later assassinated McKinley. Mr Arntz
was employed as a roller at US Steel and Republic Steel Corp. for 39 yrs,
retiring in 1948. When his career started at the mill, he earned $3. per
day. In 1909, he married Helen Timlin, who died June 3, 1958. A resident
here since 1930, coming from Youngstown, Mr Arntz was a member of St Mary
Church and Holy Name Society. Survivors include five grand children and 11
great grandchildren. Two daughters, Mrs Mary Louise Guarnieri and Miss
Dorothy Arntz, and seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
McFarland and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
