Funeral services for James Henry Bailey, 80, former Beaufort County Sheriff, who died May 6 at his Grays Hill home, were held at 2pm Monday in the Baptist Church of Beaufort.

The Rev. Dr. George A. Jones officiated, and burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Bailey was sheriff during the 1920-24 period. A native of Bluffton, he was a contractor and a retired farmer.

Survivors include six sons; Henry J. Bailey, Woodrow W. Bailey, Benjamin F. Bailey and John E. Bailey, all of Beaufort, Lewis N Bailey, of Johns Island, and Leo Bailey, Roanoke Rapids, NC; four daughters, Mrs. Marie B. Padgett, Ridgeland, Mrs Dorothy B. Padgett, Bluffton, Mrs. Julia B. Graham. Wenachee, Wash, and Mrs Margie B. Montanaro, Liverpool, NY, one sister, Mrs Josephine Brown, Mount Pleasant; 36 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

The Anderson-Greene Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
