Died, on May the 8th, at 1 a.m. at the residence of her son-in-law, S.H.
Tilghman, on the old home place, Mrs. Francis Martin, widow of the late
Benjamin Martin, her daughter, Mrs. Tilghman and husband, and her sons
George and Isom Martin and others doing all they could smooth the pathway
for her as she passed over to the silent majority. The subject of this
sketch was born in Hart County, Kentucky, March 16, 1825, made a profession
and joined the Baptist church at the age of fifteen, in 1853 became the wife
of Benjamin Martin. With her husband she became a member fo the M.E. church
and for more than three score years was a faithful follower of the Lord
Christ. They came to Texas in 1871, stopped in Johnson county for five
years, removed to Jack county in 1876, ending her days on the farm settled
at that time, twenty-six years ago.
All will miss her, especially will it be lonely for George for she had lived
with him since his father died.
