John Q. Bean was born in Benton County, Arkansas, August 19, 1842. He came
to Jack county about 1857. He was married to Martha A. C. C. Hartsfield near
where Sebree now stands December 3, 1863. His wife died in 1902. Of this
union there were born nine children, seven of whom survive him. Bro. Bean
was converted about 40 years ago in Parker county and at once united with
the church. He and his wife were charter members of the Baptist church at
Jacksboro, which church was organized August 15, 1875. He afterward united
with Howard Valley (Cundiff) church, and was ordained by this church to
preach about 30 years ago. He died on February 28, 1910, and was buried in
the cemetery at Cundiff March 1. He had been on a visit to his brother at
Greenville and was returning when he died while trying to change cars at
Saginaw. His brother was with him. He was liked by all and so far as the writer knows
had no enemy. Brother Fulcher preached the funeral.
